A Guide to Surviving and Recovering from the Pandemic

Much has been said and written about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Mainly bad news, and most focus on the macro, global or national level. Yes, most people and most companies will suffer, the poor more than the rich. Why do I say ‘most’? Some businesses, mostly the essential services e.g. groceries, supermarkets, food deliveries, online businesses, online games providers etc. will do well. For those who work in these businesses, and those in the civil services or working in Government Linked Companies (GLCs), you will be largely unaffected, income-wise. I’m not a medical doctor or a psychologist, so I won’t be touching on the medical or psychological impact of the pandemic, apart from what we know from experience.

I’ll focus on the employees and small-medium enterprises (SMEs). There are 4 parts to what I’ll share: on surviving the lockdown and the recovery after the lockdown for SMEs, by Business Categories and for Employees. These will be written in simple, readable non- academic style without much verbosity, tables, charts and statistics.
